I became a mum (mom?) in July of last year. I knew it was coming but I didn’t expect it to come so fast! Audrey was born at 31 weeks gestation to the surprise of us all.
Now, I had all these ideas in my head about what motherhood would be like. I subscribed to blogs of moms who made clothes and toys and all kinds of homespun goodies for their babies. Moms who made everything from scratch and photographed everything beautifully and still had time to write blog posts that were interesting and insightful. At the time it didn’t impress me much. My mom was pretty clever herself, and did all those things (minus the blogging) so I just assumed that’s what good moms do and that I would be that kind of mom. I kept adding to my Pinterest board all the beautiful things I was going to make.
Boy, was I in for a shock. The first 2 months I spent in the hospital getting fat on hospital food. When we finally were able to bring Audrey home I was exhausted all the time. I didn’t even have time to read a blog let alone write one! The thought of all the clever moms out there doing all the right things oddly made me angry. I considered it a good day if I had managed to squeeze in a shower at some point.
Audrey was a newborn for 6 months. She didn’t even crack a smile that whole time. I think that was what made it the hardest. You wouldn’t even know it now. Audrey is the happiest baby I have ever seen, now. She smiles at everyone – strangers even. Mostly, she smiles at her dad. He knows just how to get her really giggling.
I’ve really digressed here. I meant to tell you about why I chose to write this blog. Well, it seems that I actually have some time now. (Not a lot, mind you, but Audrey actually takes naps for longer than 20 minutes now! Yippee!).
Other topics that will be included at some point: 12 Week Body Transformation (Michelle Bridges) – I’m on round 2 baby! Babies (as the name implies!) My Thermomix and possibly some recipes, crafting (some wins and some fails) and living with kidney disease. I’m sure some other topics will come up here and there, but those are the biggies. Enjoy!
